Our Mission

The Jane Long Festival will be held the second Saturday in October each year.  The purpose of this gathering is to remember Jane Long and celebrate her spirit, strength and ability to survive on the Bolivar Peninsula in the 1820s.  Jane Long contributed to the fight for Texas independence at a time when women had little influence.  She richly deserves the title, “The Mother of Texas.”

The goal of this festival is to support the Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation in its efforts to preserve and honor the art, history, and music of a vital community. The Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation is the keystone organization in continuing to build an awareness of the rich and diverse contributions of past, present and future Bolivar residents through art show and educational programs.

Through the Bolivar Peninsula Cultural Foundation, the legacy of Jane Long, The Mother of Texas, will continue to survive and thrive.
